Still Gaming

I know i havent posted antyjing in a long time, what with a new job and life getting in the way. This doesnt mean i havent managed any gaming. I have just finised my latest army for Impetus.
They are New Kingdom Egyptians from Cuttingedge Miniatures, they are also availble from the Warlord Games site.

These figures are true 28mm scale, and quite small compared to a lot of the herioc scale 28mm mini's out there. I enjoyed painting them and happy with the result. Used a limited palette and that always helps to give the  army a cohesive feel.

Army ready for battle. This is the basic Impetus army with 1 extra skirmisher.

Also made the matching terrain. The tomb entrance will serve as my base camp when I play big Impetus.

Analogue Hobbie Challenge - first points

Managed to complete my first points in the Analogue Painting Challenge. 16 x 28mm French Napoleonic Light Infantry for a total of 80 points. First points on the board, now im off and running.

Analogue Hobbies Painting Challenge

I am not the most productive painter over the winter months so it is with some trepidation that i have signed up for the Analogue Hobbies Painting Challenge for the first time. Hopefully it will give me the impetus to finish some painting projects. Along with my brother we have agreeded a modest target of 400 points and will have our own mini duel between us.

The first figures on the table are part of my 28mm Blucher project. I like the Blucher ruleset, whenever i play Napoleonics i want to imagine myself as Napoleon or Wellington and the rules give that grand tactical feel, throwing corps into action. I know most people play the rules with smaller scale miniatures but i have always been a 28mm player, i enjoy painting at that scale and all my terrain is for that scale.  I wasnt sure about it but seeing Dots of Paints blog convinced me to have a go.

I have a small 1812 Russian army which i have based at the small scale where 1 base equals 2-3 battalions of infantry.  I like this scale as it allows me to paint up some of the smaller more colourful napoleonic units and still gives me the flexibility to play at the recommended scale.

For the painting challenge i have decided to bolster my French forces. I have a couple of units but not enough to field a full force.

Last photo shows the first miniatures ready for the start of the challenge. I know there are a few painted figures in there, these wont count towards the challenge. So in total there are

2 bases of Light Infantry - 16 minis -
5 bases of Line Infantry  - 36 minis
1 base of Swiss infantry - 2 minis
1 base of Croatian Light Infantry - 8 minis

Thats 62 minis at 5 points each, which should net me 310 points towards my 400 point target. I am going to start with the 2 bases of Light Infantry and we will se how i get on.

More Knight Models, this time its the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants.

Love the Magneto figure, its a great game if you are thinking about giving it a try, full of flavour and great for storey telling.

Robin of Sherwood

Commission wise i have been busy painting Robin Hood and his band  of Outlaws. The evil Sheriff sneaked in there as well. Not sure of the make of all the figures. Was quite generous with the foliage on the bases to give a forest feel.

X-Men

Have finished the last of the Knight Models, Marvel Universe starter sets. This last one was the X-men and Deadpool. They are some of my favourite superheroes so i an not sure why i did them last, but they are all done know and ready for the tabletop.

Also finished Groot to go alongside the Guardians of the Galaxy. Great model to paint and really happy how he came out.

Finished another Frostgrave warband. This one with a strong purple theme and snow bases.

Just finished this commission for a friend down at North Oxfordshire Wargaming Club. Hopefully they will be regular opponents for my Avengers using the new Marvel Universe rules from Knight Models.

Star Wars Imperial Assault

I have been feeling the force recently, with the release of a new film and playing lots of X-wing. With this in mind i thought i should paint up some of the minis from the Star Wars Imperial Assault box.

Next step is to tackle all the stormtroopers., should give me plenty of practice in painting white.

Holiday Gaming

Managed to get a few games in over the holidays. First game was 400 point Impetus. Nevski Russians vs my brothers Teutonics .

I sent one of my commands on a flank attack and typically it didn't arrive till the last turn. Pretty convincing win to my brothers Teutonic's.

After that we re-fought Quatre Bras using the Blucher ruleset and cards from the 100days set. Great ruleset, think it is pretty hard scenario for the french to decisively win. Ended with the British holding both objectives.

Finally we had a game of SAGA, vikings vs Normans. It was our first 6 point game so we went straight up kill the warlord scenario.

Managed to get a win after a head to head warlord combat.

Managed to get 2 games of SAGA in over the weekend against my brothers Normans. 5 points my Vikings against his Normans. First game was a straight up Kill the Warlord scenario.

Second game was the Sacred Ground scenario.

Vikings make an early rush to the hill to start scoring victory points.

Ouch, the melee didn't go so well.

Bezerkers strike again.

Finished off by a crossbow, that's no way for a viking to die, victory goes to the Normans.

Also managed to finish of my final point of Bondi.

After seeing this thread i have been inspired to have a go myself and have bought one of the Revell viking ship kits. Bit nervous has i am getting to the point when i am going to try and waterline her, got myself a circular saw blade for my Dremel that should do the job, will keep you updated.

More Hearthguard

Completed 1 more point of Hearthguard for my SAGA Vikings. That just leave 1 more point of Bondi and i will have the full 6 points painted.

Managed to get the first game in against my brothers Normans the other weekend. Spent most of the game trying to learn the new rules. Think we got most of it right. Really enjoyed it, seemed fast and lots to think about with the battleboards. Plan to get a few games in over the festive period,

Also completed some ancient Lusitanian's  for a commission.

Frostgrave Commission

I have just completed painting some of the Frostgrave figures, including some of their Wizards as well as a box of their plastic henchmen.

Who dares enter the Caverns of Doom

I have finished my first Frostgrave warband. It is inspired by D&D evil types so i have a Mindflayer for the wizard with a Beholder as an apprentice. Various Dark Elves as followers and some Rust Monsters as Warhounds.

Wanted to give them an underground feel so modeled some stalagmites on the bases. Already had a tester game at my local club - North Oxfordshire Wargaming, hopefully we will get a campaign up and running soon.

On the commission front i have also finished another starter set for Beyond the Gates of Antares, this time the Concord.

SAGA progression 2

Finished of another point of Bondi for my growing SAGA viking warband.

Managed to get a 4 point warband painted and my brother has started on his Norman warband. The plan is to get our first games in over the Christmas holidays. In an effort to try and get an early psychological advantage I  have gathered my forces together for a group shot.

Beyond the Gates of Antares 1

As part of a commission i have finished the Algoryn starter set for "Gates of Antares" from Warlord.
