Managed to get three games of Impetus in over the Christmas Holidays.
Game One
First game went for the classic Punic war match-up. I played Roman, my brother Carthaginian.
Classic Roman deployment with legions in the centre, cavalry on the wings.
The Carthaginian centre with heavy infantry and elephants.
Unbelievably the Carthaginian General gets promoted and the Roman General demoted on the same term. Is it an omen or over-confidence?
Light Cavalry clash on the wings.
Roman legion smashes through the Spanish Infantry breaking their command.
Roman general contemplates his victory.
Game Two
I went with the same Roman army against a later Macedonian army.
Macedonian Phalanx ready to meet the Roman Legions
View of the centre before both lines clash.
This time the Roman legions cant the impact on the dense wall of pikes who steam roll over them and break the Romans.
Game Three
This time my brother played the Romans and i went with a later Seleucid army.
Pikes, elephants and scythed chariots, whats not to like.
Roman Legions advance forward.
A little duel develops on the flank where Seleucid light infantry stop the Romans from outflanking them.
The scythed chariot charges forward to glory only to be destroyed by a storm of pilums.
The elephant manages to flank one of the Roman units who advance to far forward. This is the only casualty that the Macedonians cause and the battle ends a draw.
At the end of three fun and close fought battles the honour remains even with one win, one loss and a draw each.

Impetus Battle Report
Managed another game of Impetus against my brother. Huns vs Late Romans.
Charge, a Frankish Warband pours over the hill.
The Hand of God hovers over the Roman battle line. Is it a good or bad omen?
Hun Light Cavalry advance on the Roman's.
Roman Cavalry work the right flank.
Goth Cavalry prepare to charge in the centre.
The Roman General in the middle of the battle fails to make an impact as the Roman battle line falters.
The battle ends in a draw, however it would have been a victory for the Huns if i had been able to finish off either one of the two Roman cavalry units that ended the battle on 1 VBU each.
Close fun game, hopefully i will be able to get some more in over the holidays.

More WW2
Just finished another squad of WW2 British. Figures by Black Tree Designs.
Something a bit different next. I have painted some model planes as a Christmas Present for a friend. They are a 1/72 Spitfire and Me109 by Airfix. A bit of a blast from the past for me as i haven't built a plane kit since childhood. Even today i managed to get glue every where so god knows how i managed as a kid. Mounted them on a wooden display base to show them off.

82nd Airborne
I have been busy in my spare time painting up the beginnings of a small force for Bolt Action. Have chosen to paint up Offensive Miniatures US Paratroopers as the 82nd Airborne. The patches are waterslide transfers from Warlord Games.
They have not seen any action on the tabletop yet, will keep you posted. I have enjoyed the first couple of games of Bolt Action i have played. I am not to interested in tournament play but look for a fun system to share a couple of hours gaming with, like the activation dice for initiative as it adds an element of tension into the game.
Here are the first two squads with commander

Huscarls
Just finished some Anglo Danish Huscarls from Gripping Beast. Awesome sculpts that we have come to expect, particularly like the figures swinging their axes overhead, lots of movement. You get a sense of how lethal these guys must have been in real life.
Figures destined for ebay.

Chasseurs à Cheval de la Garde
Just finished painting another large 120mm piece. This time a Chasseurs à Cheval de la Garde Impériale. I know he has the wrong colour trousers. The model came with a photo of them in that colour and in my eagerness i painted them before finishing my research.
The model is for my mother who wanted a dapper gentlemen to go with her ballerina figures. Something about the Nutcracker Suite. Even with the wrong trousers i think he will cut a dashing figure amongst all the ballerinas.

Franks vs Goths
Managed to get a another game in over the weekend with my brother. This time 350 pts Impetus - Attilla's Western Huns vs Patrician Romans.
Initial deployment looked good for the Romans as they deployed in a tight box screened by terrain.
Goth Cavalry attempt to break the Roman Lines.
More success on the other Flank as a Frank warband smashes through a opposing Goth warband and cavalry unit (Must be the stripey tops, i knew there was a reason for spending the time painting them up). This exposes the flank of the remaining Goth cavalry to Hun cavalry who go on to mercilessly bow them to bits.
With the one command broken the Roman army routs and leaves the field to the victorious Hun cavalry.
Great game, was a bit unfortunate for my brother, he used 2 of his dice of destiny to re-roll a 6 on the cohesion test and both times went on to re-roll another 6.

Victoriana
Just finished off a couple of models that have been in the lead pile for years. Feels good to finish. They are a couple of Victoriana models from Wargames Foundry I picked up over the years.
I can take no credit for the Rupert Bear pants as I copied the idea from a photo in an issue 372 of Miniature Wargames.

Flames of War US Parachute Rifle Company
Carrying on with the recent change of scale, i have just finished a US Parachute Rifle Company for Flames of War. I am happy with the results. I think you have to remember with 15mm that you are going to be looking at them on mass and at a distance.

Highland Light Infantry
Something of a departure for me, i have just finished painting my first 120mm model. A sergeant of the 71st Highland Light Infantry.
Every now and then i enjoy painting something completely different as i think it helps keep me fresh. I like to have a side project on the painting table and whenever i feel painting fatigue creeping on i swap projects for a bit.
I decided to have a go at a 120mm model as i thought it would help improve my painting techniques. I believe you never stop learning and its good to stretch yourself sometimes. I used loads more paint layers than i would normally use on a 28mm model.
The paints i used where more normal vallejo acrylics, pretty chuffed with the end project, especially the wooden plinth which i think sets him off a treat.
